Kwara United rejects Biffo’s resignation as Head Coach
The management of Kwara United Football Club has rejected the resignation of its Technical Adviser/Head Coach, Abdullahi Usman Biffo.
The club urged him to return back to his position after recuperating from surgery.
Biffo had written the party to step down as the coach of the club after falling out with the newly established Kwara State Sports Commission.
Recall Biffo was issued a query by the Kwara State Sports Commission for missing the club’s 2021 budget defence.
The former Abia Warriors manager claimed he was in the United States of America undergoing treatment at the time for an eye problem.
He later was accused of insubordination to the Executive Chairman of the Commission for not attending his budget defence, an allegation he described as malicious.
“The allegation and query seem malicious, lack substance and credibility while it also breaches the terms of my contract with Kwara United. I only signed contract with details of my job description in it. Besides at no time was an invitation to attend said commission budget defence sent to me.
“As a professional football coach, I value work ethic and well organized environment. I am no longer comfortable working for the club anymore, as it is a clear indication of malicious power tussle between sports management heirachy in the state. It’s not the best atmosphere for any Professional Football coach and me in particular to operate.
“Quitting the job will enable me focus on my treatment and health in US, while the club management finds a suitable replacement before the start of the new season,” he had said in his resignation letter.
But in a statement issued by the Chairman, the Board rejected the resignation, reminding him that he signed a three-year contract that needs to be completed.
“The management of Kwara United Football Club has received your resignation letter, and subsequently, have rejected same because it negates the terms and conditions in the three years contract you signed with the club.
“You are, therefore, expected to resume after recuperating from the successful eye surgery you had, to ensure a smooth preparation of the club for the forthcoming 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
“As a professional football club, we also value working ethics, and club has provided the coaches a well organized working environment in the first and second of the three years of their reign, and believed that this will be sustained, irrespective of the circumstances,” the statement added.
The statement also added that Kwara United FC will strive to build on the successes of last season, commending the State Government for its unalloyed support to the club.
