Kwara to train over 460 teachers, school heads to strengthen basic education

Kwara State Government is set to train more than 460 teachers and school heads as part of efforts to strengthen basic education across the state.

The Universal Basic Education Board (KW-SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), will conduct the 10-day training programme aimed at boosting the capacity of early childhood educators and improving school management.

According to the organisers, a total of 224 Early Childhood Care Development Education (ECCDE) teachers and 240 heads of Universal Basic Education (UBE) schools from all 16 Local Government Education Authorities will participate in the exercise.

The programme, tagged Early Childhood Care Development Education, will be held in two phases — from September 29 to October 3, and October 6 to October 10, 2025 — between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily. The sessions will take place at Bishop Smith Junior Secondary School Hall, Queen Elizabeth School Hall, and St. Barnabas School Hall, all in Ilorin.

With 464 participants expected, the training will focus on the effective implementation of ECCDE curriculum policies and effective school management skills aimed at enhancing the quality of basic education delivery.

The initiative, according to the organisers, is part of Kwara State’s education reform agenda, which prioritises continuous teacher training to improve classroom performance, strengthen learning outcomes, and lay a stronger foundation for children’s education.
