Kwara to host science exhibition on energy, security solutions for students
The Kwara State Government has concluded plans to organise a science exhibition competition aimed at promoting innovation, creativity and practical problem-solving among secondary school students in Kwara Central Senatorial District.
The competition, scheduled to hold from May 13 to 20, 2026, will take place at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School from 10:00am daily. It is being organised by the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development under the theme, “Innovative Solutions to Nigeria’s Energy and Security Crises.”
Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the programme aligns with the state government’s commitment to strengthening science, technology, engineering and mathematics education across public schools.
He explained that the exhibition would provide students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to practical solutions addressing national challenges in areas such as energy sustainability, security, environmental management, healthcare and food production.
According to the commissioner, the administration of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has continued to invest in educational infrastructure, modern learning resources and innovation-driven programmes designed to support academic excellence and technological advancement.
He said the government remains committed to creating conducive learning environments and providing opportunities that would empower students to excel in science, technology and other innovation-driven fields.
Dr Olohungbebe added that the exhibition would expose students to research, experimentation, collaboration and critical thinking skills needed for future careers in science, engineering, technology and national development.
He noted that the programme would further position Kwara as one of the leading states promoting STEM education while nurturing young innovators capable of addressing societal challenges through practical solutions.
The competition will feature presentations on sub-themes including national security challenges, food security through science and technology, environmental protection, clean water and sanitation, health and well-being, as well as innovative energy solutions for Nigeria.
