It will be recalled that the Nigeria Customs Service on the 20th of August, 2019 partially closed Nigeria’s Borders for the betterment of the Nation’s economy.
The Anti-Smuggling Czar, Comptroller Mohammed Uba Garba, was recently posted to Joint Border Operations Drill, North Central Zone, Sector, 3 in Ilorin, Kwara State. He took the mantle from ACG Aminu Dahiru.
Today, Speaker House of Assembly, Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi with Chairman House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development, Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu paid a courtesy visit to Comptroller Mohammed Uba Garba.
The Speaker, expressed concern over the hardship of Fuel scarcity presently being faced by the four (4) district of Baruten Local government area of the State (Ilesha Baruba-Okuta-Chikanda Axis).
He appealed to the Sector Coodinator to reconsider the decision of fuel supply 20km to border communities, as a liter of Petrol is now sold between 250-300 Naira. He said the decision is taking too toll on people and the hardship is gradually becoming unbearable.
Comptroller Mohammed Uba Garba, promised the speaker that he would take the bull by the horn in proffer solutions for his people.
“Danladi is a great leader who is concerned about his people welfare,” he said.
He declared that partially border closure was not to witch-hunt or obstructs any legal businesses nor any community but to prevent illegal exportation of Petroleum Products and encourage local farmers, control the inflow of illegal arms and ammunition, illicit drugs and all other prohibited goods to the country.
The Comptroller who was posted from Seme Area Command to Sector Three 3 said that Nigeria Customs service is just an implementer of Federal Government policies and advised that the State Government should channel their complaints to the appropriate quarters.
