Kwara orders school reopening Monday, launches radio, e-learning platforms
The Kwara State Government has directed the reopening of schools across the state from Monday, January 5, 2026, while reaffirming that public safety remains its top priority.
This was contained in statement, released by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
The directive, issued by the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, applies to all schools except those located in areas currently under special security surveillance due to ongoing security operations.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said learning activities are to resume immediately in eligible areas, adding that schools in security-sensitive locations will reopen once conditions improve.
“We welcome our children and teachers back to school across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified to be under special security surveillance,” Olohungbebe said in a statement on Sunday.
He explained that the phased resumption was designed to protect students and teachers amid renewed security measures, assuring parents that normal academic activities would soon resume in all parts of the state.
The commissioner, in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), wished students, teachers, and parents a successful academic session in the new year.
As part of efforts to ensure uninterrupted learning, the ministry also announced the introduction of a radio-based learning initiative to complement classroom teaching and expand access to education.
The programme, supported by UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport, is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 5, 2026. According to the ministry, lessons will be broadcast on Midland FM 99.1 at 11:00 a.m. on Mondays, 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
The statement further noted that additional radio stations would soon be added to ensure wider access to the programme across the state.
It would be recalled that the Kwara state government few months ago directed the closure of some public schools due to insecurity that had ravaged some part of the State, especially the southern and northern parts.
