The gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP) in Kwara State, Professor Oba Shuaib Abdulraheem has promised to ensure local government autonomy if he is elected as the governor of the state in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the palace of Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Dr. Idris Abubakar on Wednesday, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin lamented the poor state of local government system as a major hindrance to the development of the people at the grassroots.
Hr said, “If you listen to President Buhari last week,he was busy castigating the Governors for stealing money through the local governments, one of the first things I promise to do is to re-establish local government authority by conducting the local government election immediately not later than six months after our elections by God’s grace.
“I believe the problem of poverty and banditry will disappear if the people are well educated. Apart from infrastructural development, I will ensure a good educational system that would also prioritize the welfare and training of the Teachers.”
Professor Oba, who was accompanied by other candidates of the party for various elective positions in the upcoming general elections disclosed that the State is in dire need of a change of leadership and his experience in the public service will bring about the needed transformation.
In his own remarks, the Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Abubakar lauded the party for flagging off its campaign in Baruten and wished them a successful outing in the upcoming general elections.
Earlier on Wednesday, the NNPP stakeholders had separately visited the palaces of Emir of Ilesha-Baruba and Gwanara to seek for their royal blessings.
Among other party bigwigs in the campaign train are Dr. Baba Jiya Kolo, Kwara north senatorial candidate of the party; Honourable Fatima Yusuf, candidate for Kaiama and Baruten federal constituency, Honourable Muhammed Danjuma Lafiyagi, candidate for Edu, Moro and Patigi federal constituency and a host of others.
The NNPP will flag off its campaign today, Thursday in, Okuta, Baruten local government.The train campaign is expected to cascade the 16 local governments of the State ahead of the 2023 general elections.
