Kwara Govt warns against defacing public infrastructure for advertisements
The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the degradation and defacement of roads and public infrastructure for billboards and advertisements, emphasizing that offenders will face serious consequences.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA), Mr. ‘Toba Adeyeye arpa, in Ilorin, the state capital.
The statement comes in light of the growing damage observed on newly constructed road medians throughout the metropolis, underscoring the necessity for strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by the agency.
“We are committed to restoring law and order in the signage and advertisement sector, irrespective of whose interests may be impacted,” the statement said.
The statement reminded the public and industry practitioners about the importance of obtaining necessary approvals before erecting any billboards or signage.
“Every brand intending to carry out a road show for promotional activities must first secure an approval from the Kwara State Ministry of Environment as well as our Agency. Failure to do so will attract appropriate sanctions as dictated by the law,” the statement noted.
KWASAA, while expressing its willingness to collaborate with businesses of all sizes to support their growth through responsible signage and advertising practices, stated that the decision was in line with the ongoing infrastructure transformation under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, urging all stakeholders to join in creating a more vibrant, orderly, and visually appealing environment.
The statement also called on the public to adhere to established guidelines that promote safety, beauty, and harmony in shared public spaces, urging compliance from both practitioners and the public in light of recent reforms.
