Kwara govt vows to sanction environmental sanitation offenders

The Kwara State Government has vowed that offenders of environmental law will be sanctioned.

Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Banigbe, disclosed this on Saturday while speaking with newsmen during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state.

She urged that “the people of the state, especially market women and men to always partake in the state’s monthly sanitation exercise in order to promote hygienic environment and prevent epidemic in the state.“

Banigbe, however, warned that henceforth, anyone who violates the environmental law, such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and other offenders will be sanctioned accordingly.

“The monthly sanitation is compulsory for all residents of Kwara because it was purposely designed for residents to clean their environment in order to promote hygienic environment and prevent epidemic in our society,” she said.

The Commissioner, therefore, implored members of the public to always abide by the rules and regulations and participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their residential environments and businesses.

The Vice Chairman of the Taskforce Committee, Col. Kayode Umar, in his remark, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustaining a clean and hygienic environment in the state, calling for total compliance by the people of the state in order to compliment the government’s effort in the provision of a clean and healthy environment for the inhabitants of the state.
