Kwara govt urges councils of tertiary institutions to be proactive, innovative

The governing councils of the tertiary institutions in Kwara state have been asked to be proactive and initiate more impactful innovations in their various institutions.

The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. (Mrs) Mary Arinde, while making this known on Friday in a meeting with the Governing Council Chairmen of all the tertiary institutions in her office, urged them to always contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of their institutions.

She said, “The State is relying on your capacity to achieve positive changes, put machineries in place to make things work in all the tertiary institutions in the State”, she said.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Barrister Sabitiyu Grillo, appreciated the commitment of the council chairmen since their inception and urged them to be more committed to the educational growth of the institutions.

In his response, the Council Chairman of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, while speaking on behalf of other chairmen, appreciated the Governor of Kwara State for the trust reposed in them and promised to carry out their responsibilities with full commitment.

He said, “The establishment of the Osi and Ilesha Baruba Campuses are real testaments to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision to improve the quality of tertiary education in the State.

He noted that the Kwara State University at the Osi satellite campus was fully functional, with academic activities taking place as they await the commissioning of the Ilesha Baruba Campus.

Others at the meeting were the Director of Continuing Education, Elder Babatunde Afolayan; the Director of Research and Development, Alhaja  Rodiat Yahaya; the Director of Tertiary Health, Alhaja Giwa; the Council  Chairman, COED Lafiagi; Alhaji Hanafi Bello, the Council Chairman, College of Health Technology, Offa, Alhaji Halidu Mohammed,  amongst others.
