NAKSS Hails Gov AbdulRazaq Over N200 Million Bursary Fund

The National Association Kwara State Students (NAKSS) in a press release jointly signed by Adisa Jaji Azeez and Abdul Mumeen Abubakar, National President and Director of Public Relations respectively has commended governor AbdulRazaq kind gestures to approve a total of N200 million in bursary and appropriation for the Kwara State University, Malete, describing Alhaji AbdulRazaq’s action as a “deft move.”

In the statement, leadership of the association further urged the governor to subsequently up the bursary budget to capture more students.

The statement read, “Following a number of press statements recently released by the foremost Students Association in the State (NAKSS) to question the actions and attitudes of the Kwara State Government in the educational sector, we wish to categorically laud their giant strides with the eventual release of a whooping sum of N200million for the Bursary and subvention for the Kwara State University, Malete.

This deft move equally gladdens our hearts after our several consultations and diplomatic steps towards negotiating the state of our tertiary institutions and technical details of the bursary awards with the state government always proved futile. This timely intervention and impressive demonstrations of sense of duty met us in good mood. We appreciate the fact that our clarion calls have finally been offered some listening ears. As an umbrella of all Kwara State students schooling both home and abroad, we appreciate the kind and fast gesture of AA lead government to the plight of we the students and we will do all to support the government in doing more.

Subsequently, having already paid rapt attentions to the need of KWASU with the recently approved subvention for the institutions, we implore the state government to also look inwardly and provide all the administrative needs of other state owned institutions across the state.

Our ongoing inspections of state owned tertiary institutions across the state has equally opened our eyes to the level of damages that had been done to the system, structure and infrastructure of these schools. All these schools possessed buildings that are mostly in deplorable states and needed urgent intervention of total refurbishments.

However based on our initial stance on the issue of the amount released for bursary, as compared with your counterparts in other states, we believe the AA-led administration can still do more by making it up to N300-400M, so that no stone would be left untouched.

We also use this opportunity to offer our hands of fellowship towards ensuring the smooth implementation and stress free bursary disbursement, which requires strategic communication to all local chapters and mobilisation of Students towards ensuring maximum enrollment.

Once again, we appreciate your efforts and believe you can do much better!

Thanks and God bless”
