Kwara govt sanctions principals for charging exorbitant PTA levies

The Kwara State Government has sanctioned some Principals for collecting exorbitant charges and items not approved from students in Public Schools.

The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu disclosed this during an emergency meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarter recently with some Principals who were fingered in the alleged illegal collection of fees apart from the approved PTA charges.

According to her, some parents had reported to the Ministry that some principals were charging above the approved PTA levies and also collecting items that were not approved during the Education stakeholders’ meeting.

She said the present administration would not fold its arms and allow saboteurs to blackmail or sabotage the result oriented education reforms of Mallam AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq’s led administration in the State.

She, therefore, directed that the affected Principals should be given queries to serve as a deterrent to others who were still collecting such illegal fees.

Some of the Schools affected are UBE Ita Ayisa, UBE Olulande, United Secondary School, Taiwo Isale, United UBE, Taiwo Isale, Oke Aluko Junior & Senior Secondary School, in Ilorin Metropolis and UBE Ganmo, Senior Secondary School Ganmo, Senior Secondary School, Amoyo in Ifelodu local government.

The commissioner reiterated that the approved list of PTA Levies in the State remain as follows: Junior Secondary School: N5,580.00; Senior Secondary School: N5,830.00 – Returning Students, JSS: N1,450.00; SS: N1,500.00. While for Textbooks (English & Maths) JSS: N3,500.00; SS: N4,000.00.
