In a bid to curb the menace of drug abuse, Aileru Olamilekan Mukail, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control on Monday, paid a working visit to the state Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In a statement released and made available to The Informant247, said the purpose of the visit was to reiterate Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq’s Commitment to combating drug abuse in the state.
Highlighting the outcome of the meeting, the Special Assistant alongside the management of the NDLEA, reiterated their commitment to advocacy and public awareness campaigns, saying efforts are being made to develop and implement public awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse in line with the National Drug control master plan, which would be targeted at a variety of audiences, including young people, students, artisans, parents, and community leaders.
On Treatment and rehabilitation, the NDLEA and the Kwara State Government promised to work together on providing treatment and rehabilitation services to people who are addicted to drugs by developing new programs and services, as well as strengthening existing ones.
On the Law enforcement, the State Government and NDLEA, agreed to work on improving law enforcement efforts against drug trafficking and abuse, by involving sharing intelligence.
Furthermore, the Kwara Command of NDLEA and the state government also discussed the importance of engaging stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse, saying all sectors of society, including government, civil society, and the private sector, need to work together to address this problem.
The Special Assistant, however, expressed the government’s commitment to working with the NDLEA in combating drug abuse in the state, while appreciating Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq on his commitment to a drug-free Kwara.
