The Kwara State Government has charged orphanage homes to operate within the armpit of the law.
According to the statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Adesike Ajiboye on Friday, it stated that all orphanage homes in the Kwara state must be duly registered before they operate.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim while meeting with some representatives from orphanage homes, said orphanage homes must ensure that they renew their registrations annually.
Ibrahim added that cases of adoption accrue legal procedures, emphasizing that orphanage homes should carry out adoption procedures through the Ministry.
She further warned that anyone or corporate body that engages in illegal adoption would be charged with child theft or child trafficking.
The Permanent Secretary called for submission of monthly reports of activities, noting that quarterly meetings will be held with orphanage homes to strengthen the relationship between them and the Ministry.
Some of the representatives of the orphanage homes present at the meeting, therefore, appreciated the efforts of the Ministry for the provision of Covid-19 palliatives and promised to cooperate with the Ministry.
