Farmers in Kwara State are set to benefit from another round of agricultural inputs and assets under the Fadama-CARES programme, with the All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN) set to support mobilisation ahead of the distribution.

The development emerged on Monday when the newly inaugurated executive of AFAN’s Kwara State chapter met with officials of Kwara Fadama-CARES to discuss farmers’ access to the programme’s interventions.

The State Project Coordinator of Kwara Fadama-CARES, Engr. Dr Busari Toyin Isiaka, urged the association to participate actively in the forthcoming distribution and help ensure that farmers across the state are adequately informed and mobilised.

He said stronger engagement with farmers’ associations would improve communication and participation while making interventions more responsive to beneficiaries’ needs.

Busari also urged AFAN to work with the State Federated Fadama Community Association and other agriculture-related organisations to advance farmers’ interests.

Speaking at the meeting, AFAN Treasurer, Engr. Funsho Afolayan, said the association was prepared to work with Fadama-CARES to ensure that agricultural interventions reach farmers at the grassroots.

Afolayan said AFAN’s structure, which spans the national, state, local government and ward levels, would enable it to mobilise farmers effectively.

He explained that the association represents 28 commodity organisations covering arable crops, livestock, trade crops and tree crops.

According to him, AFAN also serves as a link between farmers and government, advises on agricultural policies and implementation, and supports farmers’ training on climate-smart agricultural practices.

The meeting was attended by other members of the AFAN leadership, including Ex-Officio Alhaji Isiaka Ahmed Alata, Alhaji Babatunde Abdulrahman, State Organising Secretary Alhaji Rasak Aiyeleso and Kwara Central Senatorial Chairman Alhaji Hammed Adebayo.
