Kwara enhances social investment programmes to support vulnerable households

The Kwara State Government has pledged to extend its social investment programmes to provide further support for residents, aiming to enhance livelihoods throughout the state. This initiative will expand the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), which seeks to assist more households and communities across the sixteen Local Government Areas (LGAs).

During an Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing hosted by the Kwara State Ministry of Communications, Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, the General Manager of KWASSIP, highlighted the critical role of social investment in addressing poverty and social inequality. He emphasized that these programmes empower citizens by creating opportunities for financial independence and increased purchasing power.

Dr. Tejidini shared that KWASSIP has already reached out to 20,000 individuals in both skilled and unskilled labour, providing each with a financial assistance package of Twenty Thousand Naira (₦20,000) to enhance their productivity and stability. Additionally, the programme has also extended support to petty traders from various communities, distributing the same financial aid to encourage local economic growth.

Furthermore, he introduced the ongoing Household Support Programme, which targets low-income families. Launched earlier this year, this initiative is set to benefit 7,000 households, each receiving One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) to help meet essential needs.

Dr. Tejidini assured the public that the programme’s implementation is fair and inclusive, with beneficiaries selected from all Local Government Areas, irrespective of their political affiliations. He urged citizens to cooperate and support the initiative to ensure its success and maximize its impact on the community’s well-being.
