Kwara students accuse government of intimidation, set to adopt governorship candidate
The leadership of National Association of Kwara State Students, (NAKSS), National Headquarter has constituted a committee to recommend a new gubernatorial candidate for the students’ populace.
This is coming on the heel of its press conference which was held on January 11 where a vote of no confidence was passed on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State,
Speaking at another briefing on Monday, the National President of the body, Comrade Abdullahi Abdulqodri Wokili, reaffirmed the initial stands of the association and accused the government of intimidation after declaring the governor a ‘persona non grata’.
“We converge here today a few minutes after our congress to address a press conference to reaffirm and reitrate our initial stands as stated earlier in our press conference that it’s the unanimous decision of the leadership of NAKSS to pass a vote of no confidence on the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State,” he said.
The body accused the government of compelling its Vice-President to address a press conference under duress in a bid to divide the association
The student’s body also demanded that the incumbent Governor give an account of the fund he has borrowed, how it’s being spent and the way he intends to repay the loan.
While also demanding an increase in the subvention to tertiary institutions, the body further called on the governor to reveal the fund approved for students bursaries and the beneficiaries.
“In a bid to change the course of our state and prosperity, the Congress has constituted a 3 man committee headed by Comrade Alawaye Musbau to critically observe and recommend a competent gubernatorial candidate for NAKSS to support,” he said.
The students further constituted two different committees on Students safety and enlightenment against electoral violence headed by Comrade Aminu Wahab and a committee on the probe of 2022 bursary disbursement headed by Comrade Danladi Muhammed.
While noting that the association remains united in its focus, he called on Governor Abdulrahman to call his aides to order as the body may no longer condone any act of intruder in its organisation going forward.
He also enjoined the students populace to be of good conduct and desist from being used by politicians as conduit pipes for crimes during the electioneering period.
