Kwara budget: Agents of past government now turned accidental public analysts – KnRIG
A right group, Kwara North Right and Interest Group (KnRIG) has faulted critics of the newly signed Kwara appropriation law insisting “Kwara just witnessed an open government budget, accompanied with diligence and a thorough legislative scrutiny”.
In a statement jointly signed by the chairman, Kolo Majin Jerry and publicity secretary Mallam Aliyu Jibril Seko, of the group, they commended the leadership of the state House of Assembly “for changing the narrative of budget scrutiny”.
The statement read, “This is far a departure from the past 16yrs where budget is more of a family caucus affairs. A horrible scenario of having a more kind of robotic members that were too stereotype to have a mind of their own. They were too magnanimous to function as rubber stamp to whatever it is that might originate from the executive and will cross their path.
“We equally take cognisance of the Openness and transparency of the recently passed budget that enabled public participation and contribution.
“Interestingly! We are seeing a lot of those whom we consider as Co-conspirators of the ousted insensitive government now turned emergency, but accidental public analysts, commentator, and strange NGO / Civil society influencers. They now have a rare and unusual free space and opportunities to interrogate the budget through open participation, by asking questions, making observe stations, and prompting up inputs…. Some to which we observed to consider as mischievous. Nonetheless! That is the beauty of democracy through a honest government.
“We as a group wouldn’t say the budget is a perfect one! Not at all. However! It represents the most transparent and more reliable. Departure, from the preceding governments that had always been shrouded in secrecy, controversy and conspiracy of passage with absolute absence of diligence and public scrutiny or interrogation. It was used to be the norm of opaqueness reflecting an unexplainable level of insensitivity and impunity.
“It is our collective resolve at KnRIG that! The budget projection as recently processed, passed by the House of Assembly and Signed into law by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is a true reflection of the wishes of the people of kwara considering the priorities and it’s sensitivity.
“It is our hope that! The executives under the leadership of HE ‘ Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq will be faithful to the full implementation of the budget so as to make kwara work for all.”
