Kwara Assembly postpones APC’s Rufai’s inauguration

•Agboola was “only invited” for barricading Assembly complex – Police
The Kwara State House of Assembly has postponed the swearing in of All Progressives Congress (APC) member-elect, Adam Rufai to represent Patigi State Constituency in the House following his victory at the bye-election conducted on March 14 to produce a replacement for the deceased lawmaker, Ahmed Rufai.
Rufai, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was expected to be sworn in today, after being declared winner of the by-election having scored the highest votes in the election.
Meanwhile, there was a mild drama at the gate of the Kwara State House of Assembly as another lawmaker elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abdulraheem Agboola, was whisked away by the Police, after being locked out of the assembly.
Some members of the PDP in the state had stormed the state assembly to protest against the decision of the leadership of the House to stop Agboola from Ilorin South State Constituency from entering the assembly.
Recall that Agboola a Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin upheld the victory of Agboola as the winner of the Ilorin South constituency election, thereby unseating the lawmaker earlier declared winner by the Independent National Election Commission, Hassan Abdulazeez.
However, source at the Kwara Assembly said Agboola was not inaugurated as a member because of another court case involving his appeal court victory.
“The case is very dicey, Hassan Abdulazeez too is currently in court, so we have to pend all action till after everything is settled, to avoid removing and imaginating everytime,” the source who pleaded anonymity said.
When contacted, the Police PRO, Ajayi Okasanmi said Agboola was “only invited” for barricading the Assembly entrance.
“He’ll only be warned against the act. Nothing serious,” he said.
