Kwara: ADC launches grassroots structure in Oyun, signals readiness ahead of 2027 elections
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled its party structure and presence in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, marking its formal entry into grassroots political organization in the area.
The event, held in Oyun on Tuesday, brought together party leaders, members, and supporters, and was described by ADC officials as the beginning of a renewed effort to mobilize grassroots support and promote people-centred leadership at the local level.
Addressing party members, Engr. Badeji S. Adetunji said the unveiling signified the growing strength of the ADC as a political movement and urged members to sustain grassroots mobilisation across communities in the local government.
Adetunji criticised what he described as the failure of state and local governments to adequately address rising insecurity in Kwara State, particularly at the local government level, calling for urgent action to protect lives and property.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections, advising governments at all levels to begin preparing for a political transition, as, according to him, ADC candidates are ready to contest and win elections.
Speaking on behalf of the ADC state leadership and former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, Chief Hon. Olami Lekan, also known as Papo, welcomed new members who recently defected to the party.
He emphasised the need for unity, love, and collective responsibility among party members, urging them to remain committed to strengthening the ADC and advancing its growth across Oyun Local Government.
The host of the event and ADC leader across local governments, Prince Lekan Adetoyese Omokeye, also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of unity and mass mobilisation within the party.
Omokeye charged members to take ownership of the party’s growth by actively engaging with residents at the grassroots, noting that sustained commitment and outreach would be key to expanding the ADC’s influence in the area.
Several party dignitaries attended the unveiling, including Ambassador Grace, Comrade Ishola Olateju, a Personal Assistant to former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as well as other notable ADC leaders.
