The Kogi State government has ordered the arrest and prosecution of a woman, Elizabeth Abu, for allegedly maltreating her stepson, The Informant247 reports.
Following the information received from the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Fatima Buba, ordered the arrest.
It was revealed that after thorough interrogation by the Commissioner and her team, the woman, Elizabeth Abu who is married to Ewongolu Emmanuel confessed to the crime, saying she did not intend to inflict such pain on the boy.
It was gathered that the arrested woman has been charged to court for inflicting bodily harm on the boy.
In an interview with the step-son, David Ewongolu, it was discovered that he sustained the injuries on his buttock from a whipping he got from his step-mom for using part of his clothing to make a duster.
The commissioner, while reacting to the development, expressed sadness over the incident, stating that the boy is currently receiving treatment at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital.
Buba, who was fully on the ground to expedite action on the development in collaboration with the Police Commissioner, Edward Eboka, urged the Ministry’s Legal team to ensure that the law of the land takes its course.
The Secretary to the state government, Folashade Arike, said that the New Direction Government led by Alhaji Yahaya Bello has zero-tolerance for child abuse, stressing that guardians and parents must be extremely careful in raising their children in order to become responsible citizens.
