Abba Gida

Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved the sum of N437.358 billion for the 2024 budget as against N350bn presented by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Informant247 gathered that Governor Abba Kabir had, on October 27, presented the N350bn budget to the Assembly, promising to block leakages and ensure transparency and accountability in government businesses.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Assembly, Jubril Ismail Falgore, said the budget was increased to N437.3bn before its passage to take care of the needs of the people, adding that 64 per cent of the budget is earmarked for capital projects while 38 per cent is for recurrent expenditures.

It was learned that the assembly had, last week, conducted a public hearing to get inputs from other stakeholders on the budget after the 44 local government council chairmen appeared before the lawmakers for budget defence.

Majority leader and member representing Dala state constituency, Lawal Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, said the budget was designed to provide quality education, healthcare services, roads and other infrastructure in the rural areas as well as skill acquisition for women and youths.

However, the house adjourned sitting till January 29, 2024.
