Ilorin West/Asa: NDC Reps candidate Atagisoro pledges to donate legislative salary to aged, vulnerable women if elected
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Shuaib Muhammad Jamiu Atagisoro, has pledged to voluntarily dedicate his legislative salary to supporting aged and vulnerable women in the constituency if elected.
Atagisoro made the commitment in a statement outlining his willingness to channel his remuneration as a federal lawmaker into a transparent constituency support initiative focused on elderly and vulnerable women across Ilorin West and Asa.
He said the proposed initiative would be administered through a transparent and accountable framework, with proper records of funds and their distribution made available to the public.
According to him, the pledge is not intended as a payment for votes, but as a personal commitment to public service and an expression of his belief that political office should be used to improve the lives of the people.
“Our elderly mothers are the custodians of our families, traditions, values, and communities. Many of them have spent their productive years caring for their children and contributing to the wellbeing of society. In their later years, they deserve dignity, care, and support,” he said.
Atagisoro said his decision was rooted in the belief that public office is a trust rather than a privilege for personal enrichment.
He explained that while one lawmaker’s salary could not address all the challenges confronting residents, dedicating it to vulnerable members of the constituency would serve as a personal demonstration of sacrifice and servant leadership.
He also pledged that beneficiaries of the proposed programme would be identified fairly across Ilorin West and Asa, while resources would be distributed responsibly under a transparent framework.
“My salary should serve the people who gave me the mandate to serve them,” Atagisoro said.
The NDC candidate appealed to residents of the constituency to support his candidacy, promising to make the welfare and dignity of constituents a priority if elected.
He said his broader vision includes building a constituency where elderly people are cared for, young people have opportunities and public service is centred on serving the people.
Atagisoro, who holds MNMGS, MNAPE, MSPE and MGSN professional qualifications, is contesting for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency seat under the NDC.
