In a resolute crackdown on criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT command, has apprehended 11 suspects involved in various illegal activities, including mining, vandalism, and scavenging within the territory.
The suspects were paraded at the Command Headquarters in Abuja. NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, made it clear that his commitment to maintaining peace and safeguarding critical assets and infrastructure in the FCT is unwavering.
“The protection of all critical national assets and infrastructures in the FCT is not negotiable,” emphasized Odumosu, adding that the NSCDC, as the lead agency entrusted with this duty under the law, will carry out its responsibilities without compromise.
The Commandant detailed the arrests, stating that among the 11 suspects, five are believed to be involved in illegal mining, four are suspected vandals of public assets and infrastructures, and two are suspected scavengers.
He highlighted the Command’s efforts to eliminate their activities in the region, ensuring that criminals do not find refuge.
The illegal mining suspects were apprehended by the Mines and Steel Development unit of the Command, following a tip-off. Their identities are as follows:
- Abubakar Suleman, 43 years (M) from Kastina State
- Sanusi Abubakar, 21 years (M) from Kano State
- Abdullahi Musa, 18 years (M) from Kano State
- Adamu Hashiru, 31 years (M) from Bauchi State
- Ibrahim Abdullahi, 30 years from Bauchi State
Meanwhile, those arrested for the vandalism of government infrastructures and scavenging include:
- Ayu Isimailu (M), 25 years old from Gombe State
- Micheal Joseph (M), 30 years from Kaduna State
- Solomon Leo (M), 40 years from Kaduna State
- Aliyu Shamsudeen (M), 18 years from Plateau State
- Kashim Mustapha (M), 45 years from Oyo State
- Onyeishi Monday (M), 43 years from Delta State
The Commandant assured that thorough investigations are underway to ascertain the degree of their involvement in the alleged offenses. He pledged that those found guilty would face prosecution, while those innocent of any wrongdoing would be released in accordance with the law.
Furthermore, Odumosu emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and appealed to the public for consistent information and actionable intelligence.
