Hellas Verona fined €12,000 Over Racist Chants On Osimhen
Hellas Verona has been slammed with a fine of €12,000 for their racist gesture towards Super Eagles and Napoli Striker, Victor Osimhen.
The Italian serie A authority described the incident as ‘territorial discrimination’ which runs against the extant codes of the league.
The incidents happened throughout the game at the Stadio Bentegodi on Monday evening, which saw Napoli emerge 5-2 winners over their hosts.
After scoring his goal, Osimhen was seen kicking the ball into the stands while also making a ‘crying’ gesture into the camera- a gesture towards those who were hurling racist insults at him.
“The Disciplinary Commission has started an investigation into those specific insults, but meanwhile already fined the club €12,000 for ‘territorial discrimination’ chants” said a report on football-Italian.
The Serie A Chief believe that the insults, which is aimed at those from the South of Italy are treated with the same rules as racist abuse.
In addition to the €12,000, Verona were also fined €3,000 over the throwing objects onto the pitch by their Supporters.
Meanwhile, Verona fitness coach, Antonio Bovenzi was handed a one-match touchline ban for insulting the referee in the same encounter.
Osimhen scored his first goal of the season in the game and provided an assist in fought back from a goal down to win 5-2
