Hakeem Baba-Ahmed: Tinubu will lose if 2027 election is free, fair
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election if the exercise is free, fair and credible.
Baba-Ahmed made the comment during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.
He said the president could be defeated before 4pm on election day if Nigerians are allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate.
He warned that any attempt to compromise the credibility of the election could pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy, noting that millions of Nigerians were angry and eager to express their views through the ballot.
The PRP chairman said although defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be difficult, the party could be removed from power in 2027.
He cited the outcome of the Osun governorship election as an indication that the ruling party could be defeated despite its political strength.
Baba-Ahmed acknowledged Tinubu’s growing political influence, noting that the president has the backing of more than 31 governors and a significant majority of members of the National Assembly.
He, however, criticised the president for defending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against allegations of bias.
According to him, Nigerians should wait until INEC conducts a presidential election involving Tinubu before assessing the commission’s credibility.
