Some gunmen have bombed the Ogidi Police Station in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, taking the lives of three police officers in the process.
Sources revealed that the sad development occurred on Saturday.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the state police command, Tochukwu Ikenga.
He said the command has mobilised more security agents to the affected scene.
Ikenga said,” Anambra State Police Command has reinforced security in the Idemili North area of the State following the attack on the Ogidi area command in the early hours of today(Saturday) 18/2/2023, where three police operatives paid the supreme price.
“The hoodlums started shooting sporadically on approaching the area command and threw IEDs and petrol bombs, gaining entrance. Unfortunately, the buildings in the police facility were affected.
“However, the Command observed with grave concern the loss of life and valuables as a result of this attack, calls for calm as the police are resolute in depriving these criminal elements of the space, they desire to perpetrate their evil acts and enhance the safety of life and property in the state.”
Also, report has it that the residence o Mrs Edith Ejezie, a candidate for the next week’s election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was on Saturday attacked in Ihiala local government area of the state.
It was reported that all arrangements have been made towards a campaign rally when the gunmen launched the attack on them.
They reportedly vandalized all materials for campaigns which included food items, canopies and chairs and also set the materials on fire.
It was gathered that they invaded the affected area in cars and on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and chanting ”no election” in Anambra State.
