The Bauchi State Government has declared a 2-day holiday for all state-owned schools ahead of the governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday March 18, 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the much anticipated governorship and state house of assembly elections earlier planned for Saturday, March 11 2023.
The inability of the commission to kick-start the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines necessitated the postponement of the elections.
The electoral commission identified the need to reconfigure the BVAS machines which were used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Commissioner for Education in the state, Jamila Dahiru, made the announcement of 2 day holiday in a statement released on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
She said the holiday came as a result of the postponement of the elections.
The state government ordered the suspension of school activities between Friday, March 17, and Monday, March 20.
She said school resumes on March 21, 2023.
The statement reads: “In view of the readjustment of the date for the gubernatorial elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Bauchi state ministry of education hereby declares a 2-day break ahead of the elections for all Day schools in the state.”
“Day schools are to be closed on Friday 17th and Monday 20th March 2023. School activities are to resume on Tuesday 21 March 2023.
“All boarding school students are to remain in their respective schools during the break.”
