Femi Gbajabiamila, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, resigned his membership of the 10th House while resuming work as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the report, Gbajabiamila tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House before new Speaker Tajudeen Abass and the members of the House.
However, the former Speaker took a bow before the new Speaker and the members before walking out of the chamber amidst cheers and standing ovation from the lawmakers.
Prior to his resignation, Gbajabiamila was Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker at various times, during his two-decade law-making career in the House.
He was also reelected to represent Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State before his new appointment and was sworn in as a member of the House at the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday.
With Gbajabiamila’s resignation from his role as the Speaker of the House, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will now conduct a fresh election to fill the role.
