The fuel crisis has reached Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
It was gathered that the struggle for fuel, which suddenly emanated on Friday, was as a result of the crisis of leadership around the Saki branch of the Petrol Tanker Drivers Union, PTD, in Oyo State.
Sources within Ilorin have confirmed that the outgoing chairman of the association who’s recontesting for another term in office, has relinquish power as suggested by the union members.
Consequently, the drivers of the tanker were informed not to proceed to the Oke-Ogun area anymore until the crisis evaporates.
“However, one of the drivers diverted fuel supply meant for Ilorin to Oke-Ogun.
“This resulted in the sanction by the Lagos branch of PTD not to supply Ilorin with fuel until the leadership crisis is resolved,” the source added.
The fuel crisis has triggered long queues in few fuel stations in Ilorin.
The fuel stations have also seen the circumstance as opportunity to elevate the pump price from N179 and N190 per litre to N220 or N230 per litre.
The increase in price by the filling stations has also resulted to hike in transport fares within the state capital of Kwara as commercial drivers lodge complaint bitterly about the stress they pass through in buying fuel to empower their mechanical devices.
All efforts to reach the operatives of the Ilorin branch of Petrol Tanker Drivers Union proved abortive as of the time of this report.
