France names 34-year-old gay, Gabriel Attal as new Prime Minister

In an unprecedented move and a new chapter of history, France President Emmanuel Macron has announced the appointment of a 34-year-old Gabriel Attal  as the new Prime Minister of the country.

The new appointment became necessary following the resignation of former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on Monday.

Now regarded as the youngest Prime Minister in the whole world, Attal was until his appointment the Education Minister of France.

Before he was appointed as the education ministry, he was formerly the government spokesperson and later served as minister of public works and public accounts.

Attal is also the first openly gay man to serve in such an illustrious position; joining other world prominent proponent of LGBTQ community.

In a tweet after the announcement, President Macron said, “I know I can count on your energy and your commitment to implement the rearmament and regeneration project that I announced,”

As prime minister, he will oversee a new government and ensure the passage of legislation that advances the president Macron’s agenda.

France’s system of government is a semi-presidential system with both a president and a prime minister.

The prime minister is responsible to the French Parliament as the Head of government while the President is responsible for the administration as the Head of State
