FG seeks NLC cooperation to fight, end child labour

The Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Niger State, Yakubu Inuwa, has called for the cooperation of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to achieve its fight against child labour in the state.

Inuwa made this remark at the 2023 Nigeria Labour Congress State Delegates Conference which took place at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) House, Chanchaga, Minna, the capital of the state.

The Desk Officer, Child Labour, Alhassan Mohammed, on behalf of the controller said even though they have achieved a lot in the struggle against child labour in the state, there’s still for them to intensify the struggle.

He acknowledged the need to seek the cooperation of other organisations.

The state’s Head of Service, Hajiya Salamatu Abubakar, while speaking on behalf of the Governor of the State, Abubakar Sani Bello said the cooperation and collaboration of the apex labour union was needed to keep up with the standards of the International Labour Organisation, as the state has proven to be the best in the fight against child labour.

Earlier, the chairman of the NLC in the state, Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene, said the union would not stop collaborating with the government for the achievement of enabling environment for civil servants in the state.

He said NLC struggles made implementation of 90 per cent of the promotion of state civil servants possible while that of local governments was in process.
