Fear of fire accidents: Community appeals to Kwara gov. AbdulRazaq over dangerous tanker route
Residents of Pakata, a community in Ilorin West Local Government Area, have issued an urgent appeal to Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, calling for immediate intervention to prevent tanker drivers from using the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje Road, which runs through the heart of Ilorin.
The plea was made by the President of Pakata Patriots, Mallam Shehu Ahmad Aliyu, in a statement acquired by The Informant247 on Monday.
Mallam Aliyu explained that the problem arose after articulated lorries were blocked from using the newly completed Alfa Yahaya Road, forcing tanker drivers to divert through residential areas.
These tankers, often carrying petrol, now use the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje route to connect to Oko-Olowo or Geri Alimi, creating a serious safety hazard for local residents.
“The activities of these drivers are posing a significant danger to the lives of those living along the road and other road users,” Mallam Aliyu warned.
He expressed concerns over the high risk of fire accidents from the petrol-laden vehicles, which has instilled fear within the community.
In light of the situation, the community leader has appealed to Governor AbdulRazaq to take swift action and direct relevant authorities to provide alternative routes for these heavy-duty vehicles, in order to prevent potential disasters and save lives.
The statement, signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Pakata Patriots, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Orekan, stressed the urgency of the matter, calling for immediate intervention to avert casualties.
