In a disturbing revelation, a 28-year-old man named Musbau Salisu has confessed to a heinous act, admitting that he drugged his wife and used rat poison to kill their infant daughter in the Doka community, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Salisu disclosed that he had given his wife, Saade, sleeping pills to carry out his dreadful plan.

His arrest was made three months after the horrific crimes, and he openly confessed to the gruesome acts.

The motive behind his actions was his preference for a male child, but when his wife gave birth to a female, he felt compelled to commit the unthinkable.

Salisu admitted, “Some three months ago, the day after my wife delivered the baby, I went to Rimingado at night to buy rat poison and mixed it with tea. I gave the baby with the intent to kill her, but it took some time before she died. Similarly, I bought sleeping pills, which I used to drug my wife to sleep. I purchased these items from drug peddlers by the roadside.”

When questioned about whether he killed the baby because she was a girl or for some other reason related to his wife, he denied both and claimed that the crimes were driven by personal interests.

The Deputy Commander General of Hisbah in charge of operations, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, expressed shock at the case, emphasizing that the blessing of any marriage is the birth of a child.

He condemned Salisu’s preference for a male child over a female and the tragic outcome of his actions.

The case is now being forwarded to the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
