During the G77+China Summit, Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, led a delegation that signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Cuba to bolster cooperation in the fields of Innovation, Science, and Technology between the two nations.
The signing ceremony, a highlight of Nigeria’s participation in the summit, occurred on the sidelines at Hotel Palco La Habana on Saturday.
Uche Nnaji, Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science & Technology, represented the Federal Government of Nigeria by signing the MoU.
In response to the signing, Minister Nnaji praised President Bola Tinubu’s visionary leadership, which facilitated this agreement.
He expressed Nigeria’s commitment to seizing the opportunities provided by the bilateral agreement and assured that the implementation would commence promptly.
Nnaji emphasized his determination to establish the necessary mechanisms for a program of action.
Vice President Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s strong support for South-South cooperation as a means of advancing sustainable development in the global South.
This bilateral agreement is set to enhance collaboration in areas such as research and development (R&D), human resource development, biotechnology, scientific investigation, innovation, technological development, technology transfer for development areas, and specialist exchanges in the realm of Science and Technology.
Before the start of the summit, Vice President Shettima informed Cuba’s Vice President of Nigeria’s intention to sign essential MOUs with Cuba for agricultural, scientific, and technological development.
This historic event was witnessed by Amb. Adamu Lamuwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Ben Okoyen, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cuba, and other high-ranking government officials.
