FACT CHECK: Viral photo of AbdulRazaq, Mustapha, Danladi was taken during sallah homage, not political meeting

A photograph circulating on social media purportedly showing Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alongside Senator Saliu Mustapha and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, is being falsely presented as evidence of a political reconciliation meeting ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Posts accompanying the image claimed that Governor AbdulRazaq had “united” Senator Mustapha and Speaker Danladi following the controversial APC governorship primary election in Kwara State, suggesting that the gathering was part of efforts to strengthen party cohesion ahead of 2027.

The posts further alleged that Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi had emerged as the APC governorship candidate and that the meeting signaled a strategic political alignment within the ruling party.

FINDING

However, checks show that the claim is false and misleading.

Findings indicate that no such political meeting was held between the governor, Senator Saliu Mustapha, and Speaker Danladi as claimed in the viral narrative.

The photograph being circulated was actually taken during the Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah) festivities, when top government officials paid a traditional homage visit to the Surulere family house of the AbdulRazaq family after leaving the Eid praying ground and palace activities.

Sources familiar with the event confirmed that the governor and Senator Mustapha were together at the Eid praying ground and later appeared in the same Sallah homage gathering. The occasion was purely ceremonial and religious in nature, with no connection to politics, reconciliation talks, or post-primary negotiations within the APC.

A reverse image search conducted on the photograph further indicates that the image predates the current political narrative attached to it and was originally shared in the context of Sallah homage activities, not any political meeting or reconciliation effort following the APC primary election.

Additionally, a government official, Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), posted the image on his Facebook page with a brief description indicating it was taken during Sallah homage activities.

No credible evidence was found linking the image to any recent political meeting, alliance, or intervention involving the governor, Senator Mustapha, or Speaker Danladi after the APC primary election controversy.

CLAIM

The image shows Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reconciling Senator Saliu Mustapha and Speaker Yakubu Danladi ahead of the 2027 elections following the controversial APC primary election in Kwara State.

VERDICT

False. The image was not taken during any political reconciliation meeting or post-primary strategy session. It was taken during Sallah homage visit to the AbdulRazaq family house during Eid celebrations on 27th of May, 2026 and is unrelated to the APC primary election or 2027 political arrangements.
