Tension engulfed Kidandan Village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State as 10 children sustained injuries in an explosion on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred while the children were playing with an object found in a nearby bush, suspected to be a bomb, which suddenly exploded.
Photographs obtained by Daily Trust depict the victims in distress, covered in blood, receiving assistance from concerned residents. They were swiftly transported to Shika Hospital in Zaria for medical treatment.
Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ruka, the Village Head, confirmed the incident, noting that no fatalities occurred but 10 individuals were injured.
He mentioned ongoing efforts to compile the names of the victims, as the police had visited the community.
Abdullahi Ismail, the Councilor Representing Kidandan Ward, corroborated the incident, revealing that the children had discovered the object while fetching firewood in the bush.
“I was told the children picked the object in the bush when they went looking for firewood. It exploded and injured them badly,” he stated.
A community leader who pleaded not to be named described witnessing severe injuries, including broken legs and visible intestines on one victim.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, was unavailable for comment at the time of this report.
