Ex-president Jonathan calls for arrest of thugs who destroyed INEC materials in Bayelsa

Thugs distrupt election in Bayelsa 1

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on the appropriate authority to arrest the thugs who vandalized election materials in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa state.

The former Nigerian leader reacted to the voting process after exercising his civic responsibility at his polling unit on Saturday March 18.

The Informant247 recalls that some hoodlums earlier appeared at Otuokpoti Ward 2 of Ogbia LGA, hijacked and set election materials on fire.

The staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reportedly left the venue of the election as soon as the incident occurred.

“Judging from my voting unit here, materials arrived earlier than three weeks ago. In terms of the general security of the election, it’s peaceful here,” he said while granting a television interview.

“But I’m disturbed because I’ve learned that in the state constituency 2, there was a crisis and materials have been burned.

“The police must make sure they arrest all those involved. If they feel challenged, they should go to the governor to get the military involved. All those involved must be arrested and prosecuted.

“We are all watching. If the police fail to do that, we will be terribly disappointed.”
