Ex-AGF Malami joins ADC, calls for national reawakening to unseat Tinubu in 2027
In a surprising political shift, Abubakar Malami, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His decision, revealed in a statement titled “To the Good People of Kebbi and Fellow Nigerians,” highlights his commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.
Malami clarified that his defection stemmed from “wide consultations and deep personal reflection” rather than personal ambitions. He expressed deep concern over the current state of Nigeria, stating, “Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritises politics over the safety of its citizens.”
The former minister pointed to the harsh economic realities that many Nigerians are grappling with, highlighting soaring living costs and food inflation. “Our economy is in shambles. Prices of basic food items have tripled. The poor can no longer feed their families. Jobs are disappearing. Young people are hopeless,” he lamented.
In his statement, Malami criticized the current administration’s governance practices, arguing that merit has been overshadowed by political patronage. “Governance has been abandoned. Appointments, projects, and policies are now guided by political loyalty and not national interest,” he accused.
Expressing his inability to remain part of a system that turns a blind eye to the suffering of its citizens, Malami stated, “I cannot remain part of a system that watches in silence as Nigerians suffer and die.”
Highlighting the importance of unity in addressing Nigeria’s challenges, he declared that his decision to join the ADC is part of a broader effort to push for change. “This is why I am joining the ADC—a platform built on the values of justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal,” he explained.
Malami reassured his constituents in Kebbi, stating, “To the people of Kebbi State, I remain your son and servant. I will never abandon you. This move is to amplify your voice, protect your interests, and restore hope to our future.”
Concluding with a rallying cry, he called on all Nigerians to unite. “Let us rise above fear and reclaim our nation. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he urged.
