Everton has described the ten points deduction from its already accrued point as “wholly disproportionate and unjust” .
The Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules(PSR) had deducted ten points from Everton over the breach of PSR’s rules.
An independent commission imposed an immediate deduction from Everton, a development which will see them drop from 14th into the relegation zone.
In an official statement from the club on Friday, it announced its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League.
The statement reads;
“Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission.
“The Club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The Club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence and the Club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.
“Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. The Club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings. Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.
The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Everton cannot comment on this matter any further until the appeal process has concluded”. It said.
Everton has endured a poor start into the season. Their poor run of form sees them sitting in the final quarter of the log with the new development leaving them joint bottom of the Premier League with Burnley, who they only lead on goal difference.
Everton’s most recent figures showed a fifth straight year of losses, with their total loss over that period amounting to over £430m.
The club said they had recorded
a loss of £44.7m for the 2021-22 season earlier this year.
After three straight years of losses in excess of £100m, Everton said they had made significant reductions to their losses, down £76m from last year’s loss of £121m.
Meanwhile , it will remain to be seen if they win at the the appeal
