Erstwhile president of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has faulted alleged mistreatment of protesters seeking disbandment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
Reports have established that police are ill-treating ENDSARS proponents in some states of the federation including Abuja, the nation’s capital.
An assistant to the ex-Senate president, Olu Onemola was one of those the Nigerian police allegedly apprehended in Abuja as tear gas was reportedly used to disperse protesters.
Saraki in a tweet on his Twitter account, @bukolasaraki, on Friday, in a strong term, reprimanded the alleged heinous action, thereby charging the Nigerian Government to have a robust consultative engagement with the youths on issues affecting their well-being.
Saraki wrote, “The reports of the aggression meted out to young Nigerians protesting the high handedness of rogue units of @PoliceNG are deeply disturbing.
“Leaders of our nation ought to listen to and engage with our youth on matters concerning their wellbeing. I hope this approach changes soon,” Saraki added.
