The agitation for the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad Unit of the Nigerian Police Force has fast been gaining traction as renown Nigerians are joining the protest against the alleged brutality of perceived innocent Nigerians in the hands of thevSARS operatives.
The latest among renowned Nigerian personalities to lend his voice to the call to scrap the SARS unit, is a popular Lagos-based Ilorin Islamic cleric, Sheikh Muhammed Habibullah Adam El-Ilory.
The rector of the Agege-based Islamic and Arabic Training Centre, Markaz, through his official Twitter handle, aside criticising SARS brutality, called for the reorientation of men of the Nigerian Police.
He said: “@Habibelilory There are various ways to curb social vices rather than putting trigger-happy and blood thirsty men behind guns and ammunitions! That’ll do the society more harm than good!Aside the #EndSARS protests; We all can come to conclusion the force needs proper orientation! @NGRPresident.”
Sheikh Habibulahi is the son of the late erudite Islamic scholar, Sheikh Adam Abdullahi El-Ilory who died in 1992.
