Emir of Ilorin bans prayers at mosques over coronavirus fears

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has suspended the holding of weekly Friday prayers in mosques in Ilorin to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier, on Monday, The Kwara state police command had placed ban on gatherings of more than 10 people after the state government shut down all schools and instructed civil servants to work from home.

A statement on the Facebook page of the Emir’s personal aide, Muritala Raheem read, “Maimartaba, Sarkin Ilorin and Council of Ulamah has advised all Muslim Ummah in the state to be observing Prayers in their respective homes in line with the Federal and State Governments directive that everyone should stay at home pending the time the country will overcome the deadly disease, Corona Virus.

“In view of this, the council has suspended all Jumaat Congregations till further notice. May Allah protect each and everyone of us against this deadly Virus.”
