Eid-ul-Fitr: FG declares Thursday, Friday as public holidays

The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

Extending warm felicitations to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, the minister urged them to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive season as an opportunity to pray for the country’s peace, unity, and continued progress.

Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged in society, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence nationwide.
