EFCC hands over Emefiele linked 753 units of recovered houses to Housing Ministry

In a significant move towards transparency and accountability, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, officially handed over 753 units of houses to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The ceremony took place at Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09 in Lokogoma District, Abuja.

These properties, which encompass a total area of 150,500 square meters and include duplexes and various apartments, were recovered following a final forfeiture order from Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on December 2, 2024.

During the handover, Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to transparent asset recovery processes. “This is to demonstrate to Nigerians that whatever proceeds of crime we have recovered in the course of our work, the application of that will be made transparent,” he stated. He underscored the importance of ensuring that those who have misappropriated public funds do not benefit from their crimes, reinforcing the agency’s mission to deprive them of their stolen wealth.

Olukoyede also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to combating corruption, asserting that the transfer of these properties symbolizes the government’s dedication to tackling economic and financial crimes.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, praised the EFCC’s ongoing efforts in asset recovery, calling the handover a “significant milestone” in the collective fight against corruption. He assured that the Ministry would collaborate with the EFCC for a joint tour of the estate to assess its structural condition and explore ways to utilize the recovered assets productively for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
