EFCC arrests man over 2023 campaign advert in Enugu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a man who allegedly placed open advertisement boards, relating to the 2023 elections, at some strategic places, in Enugu State.
The advert could be found on two billboards having the agency’s name and logo.
The two bill boards were placed at Otigba and Zik Avenue junctions.
One of the messages reads: “2023: Enugu PDP Learn From 2007 Election… EFCC IS COMING WITH KOBOKO ON CORRUPT CANDIDATES.”
The spokesperson of the agency, Wilson Uwujaren, via a statement, said that the suspect, Baron Nnamdi, has been arrested.
Nnamdi however revealed to the operatives that he was sent on the errand by a media aide to a former Enugu deputy governor who’s aspiring for governorship position.
He said he received the sum of N160,000 for the errands and that the aide gave him the messages on the billboards, EFCC logo and pictures.
“The commission visited the two sites and pulled down the offensive advertisement”, Uwajaren noted.
The statement also warned politicians to desist from dragging the EFCC “into the political fray”.
The anti-graft agency however promised to “bring the full weight of the law to bear on errant politicians” who impersonate.
