The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, was not present at the presidential campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, which took place in the state, Thursday, January 19, 2023.
The presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, however showered praise on the governor of the state and the leadership of the party in the state for enabling a conducive atmosphere for the rally to take place.
While expressing himself at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the capital of the state, the presidential candidate, appreciated the governor, for the “well organised” rally.
“The people of Oyo state — let me use this opportunity again to commend governor Makinde and the PDP in Oyo state for making sure that this rally is well organised and well-orchestrated,” Abubakar said.
The national Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, while expressing himself at the rally, commended the governor for the “successful” campaign rally in the state.
The Governor is a member of the G5 — a group of 5 governors who have not absent showing up at the presidential campaign rallies of the presidential candidate.
The Informant247 observes that the G-5 otherwise known as the Integrity Group, is made up of Governor Wike (Rivers), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Samuel Ortom (Benue), Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
The 5 aggrieved governors called for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu as 2 northerners cannot be presidential candidate and the national chairman of the same party at a time.
They announced that the resignation of the national chairman should be accepted as a precondition for them to support the presidential ambition of the Party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections.
