Foremost boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has given an update on the Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury’s fight.
According to Hearn, the all British bout might be happening soon on the back of many efforts that have been put into it.
Joshua needs another top grade bout to launch himself back but it has been noted that he would have to engage in a middle or low level fight to gain his rhythm back.
In an interview with iFL TV, Hearn noted that Joshua wants a big fight in the summer and expressed that the one that makes the most sense is a rematch against Dillian Whyte, with the door also open to big names in the division including Tyson Fury.
“We’re open to a Deontay Wilder fight, we’re open to a Tyson Fury fight, we’re open to every fight in the summer. But yet, in my mind with AJ fighting in April and probably Dillian fighting around the same time, that would lead them to a big all-British heavyweight fight in the summer. Doesn’t mean it’s done, we’ve still got to agree terms with both fighters, but that’s what I’d like to do.”
“However, AJ knows he wants to be in the biggest fights possible and if a bigger fight rears its head, and there’s only two bigger fights in the division than Dillian Whyte, and that’s Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. And if they appear, somehow, 100 per cent are willing to look at those as well”.
Joshua lost the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles in 2021 after a unanimous-decision defeat against Usyk before suffering another loss to Ukrainian in August 2022.
The 33-year-old has now not won a fight for two years, with his last victory coming against Kubrat Pulev in December 2020.
