The ex-German midfielder dabbled into an argument that has been on for almost fifteen years on who is the greatest footballer of all time between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The out-of-favor Arsenal star spent three years in Madrid, forming a strong force with Ronaldo on and off the pitch before he was sold to North London setting the transfer record at the Emirates.
He gives the nod to Ronaldo because the Portuguese has played in four of Europe’s top leagues, compared to his Argentine who has only played in Catalan since he was a teenager.
Ozil in a tweet chat on Thursday replied to a fan who asked him to choose between Lionel Messi who has won the ballon d’or for record six times, and Ronaldo who came second in the major individual honor with five ballon d’or to his name. “Messi has proven himself to be one of the best in Spain, but Ronaldo was always the best in every country he’s played in.”
Ozil who has been a subject of transfer speculation at the Emirates stadium since the resumption of football due to Covid19 pandemic is aiming to secure a move away this month.
