Court sentences man to 9 months imprisonment for stealing 2 goats
A 20-year-old man, Pius John, bagged nine months imprisonment over theft of two goats.
He was dragged before an Area Court in Jos on Tuesday.
Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan, the panel of two magistrates who made the pronouncement did not give John a fine of N10, 000.
The convict has been directed to pay make a payment of N40, 000 as a compensation to the complainant.
The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.
Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the Prosecution Counsel, earlier informed the court that the matter was on Oct. 11 brought to the awareness of law enforcement agency at the Anglo-Jos Police station by the complainant, Mr Dung Gyang.
The prosecutor also added that the convict invaded the house of the complainant, illegally took away two goats worth N40, 000.
The prosecutor also said the offence was a violation of the provisions of sections 334 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code.
