Military reacts as naval officers invade police station, beat police officer to stupor

The Nigerian Navy said it has arrested, detained and commenced investigation into the action of some naval officers who stormed a police station and assaulted a police officer.

Some operatives of the Nigerian Navy on Friday reportedly stormed a police station in Delta State and beat a police officer.

In the video which has gone viral on social media, the affected police officer was restless in the premises of the police facility.

The assaulted police officer was surrounded by his fellow officers who were persuading to him to calm down.

He had a bloodied face and his uniform slightly torn.

The wounded police officer could be seen removing his shirt and moved in the direction of the gate, trying to pursue the naval officials who allegedly beat him.

The circumstances that triggered the fracas could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy, Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, disclosed that the naval operatives have been arrested and detained.

He said, “Good morning. They have been arrested and detained for quick investigation and strict disciplinary action.”

The spokesperson of the state police command, Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident, said the issue would be treated internally.

“We are treating that matter internally,” he said.
